Workshop: Captivate the Camera

Description: In this workshop River will teach you how to slay your dance videos and work with you to create one! Class starts with a dancey full body warm up. Then we will move into the lesson, which includes tips and tricks River has learned both dancing in and filming 100s of pole videos covering best practices for lighting, angles, simple editing and dance storytelling. River will provide a hand out sheet with all the information so you can come back to it later and we will be breaking the class into groups to practice the techniques we are learning.

After the lesson each student will freestyle and be professionally filmed by River while the other students watch and cheer them on. All workshop attendees will get the full recording of their freestyle emailed to them after class, there will also be an option to pay an additional $50 to have River make you a package of 3 edited reels as well as the recording.

what to wear/bring:  Water bottle, your favorite pole grip if you like to use it, whatever you want to wear for your freestyle video! You are welcome to bring two outfits and change before your video. If you have a tripod for your phone, bring it but not required.

accessibility: since the dancing in this class is all freestyle based you can accommodate yourself and find dance that feels good for your body! Class will involve some sitting on the floor but chairs can be provided if needed.

**Suitable for all levels. This 2-hr workshop + video is $55 + tax

River - Instructor

@riversdreamscape

River (they/them, fae/faer) is a sex worker and artist who loves sharing their passion for embodied movement as an entertainer, instructor, producer and media creator. River is endlessly inspired by fellow strippers and works to destigmatize and celebrate strippers through producing Seattle’s first all stripper show series PRO $LUT TAKEOVER, and organizing with the grassroots org Strippers Are Workers. While pole is their primary movement expression, River also loves dancing with fire, hoops and fans, or just the wind. Exploring queerness is central to their dance style, whether it’s with raunchy masculine moves, femme4femme sapphic doubles, or feeling through the ebbs and flows of androgyny - River sees gender, sexuality and dance as a vibrant playground for self expression, healing, and joy. They are active as a pole photographer and videographer and you can book shoots with them both in studio and in nature on their portable pole. They travel back and forth between Seattle and Portland to work and perform and are so grateful for the community they've built and continue to expand across the PNW.
